The Lions have it; election success at Guru Teg Bahadhar Gurdwara

In the elections for the management committee of the Guru Teg Bahadhar Gurdwara, 106 East Park Road, Leicster took place on Sunday 21st September. 

The Lion Group won very convincingly by over 600 votes lead.
 
The four weeks of extensive campaigning by both parties resulted in 2830 votes being cast from the 3687 total membership, which is 76.75%.
 
The Returning Officer Roger Davies from The Association of Electoral Administrators commented, “I was pleased at the smooth administration of the election. The hospitality of the hosts was very good, and created an atmosphere which the election staff were delighted to be involved in. We hope the Guru Teg Bahadhar Gurdwara management felt the same way.
 
The co-ordinator for the Lion Group, Kashmir Singh expressed his delight, he said “All the election process went very smoothly and peacefully. Both parties contesting the election co-operated with each other whole heartedly. 
 
“I am very thankful to both parties for the election process. I am very thankful to the police who provided security on the day and the I thank all the congregation and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji who gave us guidance to go through this election process and I hope the new management will work for the unity for all the Sikh and other communities.” 
 
Mr. Singh also pointed out that three of the candidates for the Lion Group were elected unopposed, as the opposing party did not fulfil the condition of nomination forms and election regulation.
 
Commenting on the election Police Sergeant Kooldip Johal from the Leicestershire Constabulary said “Everything about the election went very well. It was fantastic.”
 
The newly elected General Secretary Gurnam Singh was grateful to the all the members and commented “We would like to express our thanks to the Returning Officer and all the members and staff of The Association of Electoral Administrators. 
 
This electoral association has been connected with the Gurdwara for the last eight years conducting elections every two years.
 
President’s votes for Mohinder Singh were 1052 and votes for Mohinder Singh Sangha were 1671, a majority of 619 votes. The votes for the remaining 13 position were similar in which all the Lion Group won by more than 600 votes.
 
There were 33 invalid votes of which 21 were for: ‘voting for more than the voter is entitled to’ and 12 were for ‘ being unmarked or rejected because of uncertainty’
