The Islamic Medical Association (IMA) is distancing itself from its former president after he wrote to a magazine saying homosexuals spread disease.
Dr Muhammad Sidiq is denying misconduct at a disciplinary hearing in Manchester, following claims he said homosexuals should feel "the stick of the law" to protect people from their "ravages".
The 65-year-old, who trained in Pakistan, is denying the allegations and claims it was a spoof by his son. He has already been suspended, and faces being struck off the General Medical Council.
