The Holy Scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib was set ablaze in the Kashmore district a week ago in Kandhkot, but police have yet to make any arrests, according to a communiqué of the Sindh ministry for minorities’ affairs.
The communiqué claims that while protests by Hindus and Sikhs have been continuing throughout the province, the Sindh government has constituted a high level investigation team to probe into the occurrence.
Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sindh, Dr. Mohan Lal Kohistani will be the one leading this fact-finding mission, whereas minority MPAs Saleem Khurshed Khokhar and Pitamber Sewani will also be a part of this committee, International News has reported
On September 5, some unidentified troublemakers set fire to the Guru Granth Sahib in a temple shared by Sikhs and Hndus, the Guru Nanak Darbar at Kandhkot, in the northern district of the province, the statement said.
This holy shrine is in Suniar (Goldsmith) Bazaar of tehsil Kandhkot of district Jacobabad. The locality is also known as Nanakwara. This location is remembered as Nanak Darbar. The Darbar is a double storied beautiful building.
There are also temples of Kali Mata, Sri Rama and Hanuman Ji adjacent to the Darbar, and religious worship takes places in the entire temple.
Recitation of Granth Sahib also takes place beside the idols. At Deewali, Vaisakhi and Janamashtami big gatherings take place. Sangat runs into thousands at this place
The episode has caused panic among the Hindus and Sikhs through out the province and the Pakistan Hindu Foundation has also called for three-day mourning against the incident, after which the Hindu community observed a shut down in different districts of the province.
The Minister for Minorities’ Affairs has announced that, “the culprits would not be forgiven at any cost and the Sindh government would soon put these miscreants behind bars.”
