Following this year’s nail-biting World Twenty20 international semi-final match which saw Australia enter the final over Pakistan in May, the two teams are set to go head-to-head again in what promises to be an entertaining two days of thrilling Twenty20 action at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on 5th and 6th July.
This MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) Spirit of Cricket Series means Edgbaston will become Pakistan’s home ground for these two games.
Tickets for the match are still on sale and with its large West Midlands Pakistani fan base the ground will be rooting for Shahid Afridi and his men over the two encounters. Pakistan last played at Edgbaston in 2006 and with great support, it promises to be a high-intensity battle with both teams looking for the win. Matches start at 5pm on both days with gates opening at 3pm for sales.
Colin Povey, chief executive at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, said: “The international matches always draw in the crowds and for many of our local Pakistani community this provides the ideal opportunity to see their home team play top-class cricket on their doorstep.
“When Pakistan and Australia last met, Shahid Afridi and his team missed out to victory against the Aussie team who won with three wickets and a ball to spare. As we all know Pakistan aren’t a team to rest on their laurels so we’re anticipating a high-energy battle which is likely to be something of a spectacle and not to be missed.”
